NATIONAL MEDIA ALERT

Take a step towards change by registering for HeartKids Two Feet & A Heartbeat charity walk on Sunday 16 October 2022

Australians across the nation are being encouraged to register for the HeartKids Two Feet & A Heartbeat charity walk on Sunday 16 October, to help raise money for children impacted by congenital heart disease (CHD), one of the leading causes of hospitalisation and death in Australian infants.

Eight children are born each day with a heart defect and four lives are tragically lost each week. Despite these unfortunate statistics, more than 72,000 Australian children and adults live with CHD; many of them will require ongoing medical treatment and repeated heart surgeries for the rest of their lives.

The Two Feet & A Heartbeat walk is an opportunity for the local community to come together with the families to pay tribute to heart kids and heart angels. Each registered participant will receive a pair of socks and a flag representing their CHD connection (a white flag for heart angels, a blue flag for heart kids, and a red flag for heart kids family, friends and community supporters). There are two walking options, 4km for the four lives lost each week, or 8km for the eight babies born with CHD each day.  HeartKids will host numerous events across the country while those that are unable to attend an event can register online and walk in their local area.

HeartKids relies on community fundraising to support its programs with all money raised assisting children and families impacted by CHD through in-hospital and family support programs, camps for CHD children, vital education initiatives, and peer support services.
